UNITED CEREBRAL PALSY HOLIDAY BOX CAMPAIGN

MTPA has made collecting items for the United Cerebral Palsy Holiday Box Campaign an annual event at its November monthly luncheon.  The Holiday Box Campaign aims to provide essentials such as staple, nonperishable food items, warm clothing, bath and bedding items for families in extreme poverty whose resources and family supports are severely limited.  As in the past, MTPA has committed to providing at least ten (10) holiday boxes.  We will be soliciting specific donations from MTPA members according to the list provided by UCP (see below).  The Holiday Boxes will be assembled during our November 5th MTPA luncheon. 

United Cerebral Palsy’s (UCP) mission is ‘to advance the independence, productivity, and full citizenship of people with disabilities and to provide support to family members.’  UCP serves individuals with all types of disabilities. UCP’s expertise is generally in service to individuals with physical disabilites which affect mobility. UCP also serves as the area clearinghouse for information about the condition known as cerebral palsy. At present, approximately 40% of UCP consumers have cerebral palsy, the second largest lifetime disability in the U.S. (mental retardation is the largest). 60% of the people UCP serves have physical disabilities other than cerebral palsy. These include such conditions as spina bifida, M.S., disability resulting from head and spinal cord injury, ALS, amputations, strokes, and heart attacks, and many lesser known physical disabilities.

* The number in parenthesis is the minimum suggested amount of each item each box should contain.  Approximately 300 food items will be needed to fill the 20 boxes (2 paper boxes = 1 holiday box) we have committed to so please be generous!! Thank You!!
