PACE - Paralegal Advanced Competency Exam

The Paralegal Advanced Competency Exam (PACE) is offered by the National Federation of Paralegal Associations, Inc. (NFPA), to test the competency level of experienced paralegals.  PACE is offered to paralegals who have a minimum of experience level of two years and who meet specific educational requirements.

PACE offers experienced paralegals an option to:
• validate experience and job skills;
• establish credentials; and
• increase value to employers, organizations, and clients.

The only exam of its kind, PACE:
• developed by a professional testing firm;
• administered by an independent test administration company;
• tests concepts across practice areas;
• offers the profession a national standard of evaluation; and
• offered at multiple locations on numerous dates and at various times.

A seven-week, computer mediated distance learning preparatory course for PACE is also available.  Completion of this course does NOT guarantee passage of PACE or eligibility.

For more information on the practice exam and the online training course, please refer to NFPA’s website (www.paralegals.org).

Credential Maintenance

To maintain the PACE RP credential, paralegals are required to obtain 12 hours of continuing legal education, including at least one hour in ethics, every two years.
